The centennial edition gives us the text again in its original attractive cover design, but someone felt compelled to overload the text with way too much extra material. I'm a scholar of modern American poetry, so I found nothing new here. I suppose it is no longer economically feasible to publish small volumes.Product details

This is a review of the edtion. It is not the centennial edition, simply a reprint of the same original edition you can download at archive dot org for free. I purchased it and looked it over. Then I requested a refund.

I bought the paper edition. It's done pretty well, for the price. Decent quality of construction. As far as the content? What is there to say? On one level, it's enough that it is available, given Pound's politics, and given the politics that have triumphed.
His book of Chinese poems is not a literal reading. No one thinks that. More a poetic interpretation, in English, of what is kind of said in the original poems. Maybe it is all that can be expected. Some (such as Oswald Spengler) argue whether an "organic" cross cultural translation is even possible. If Spengler's view is close to being correct, perhaps then, the only way a meaningful Spiritual understanding between different cultures can happen is via this sort of thing.
For what it's worth, I think Spengler is too exclusive in his view, and that more can be said and comprehended; more than he might allow for. But no one doubts the difficulty of adequately translating the Spiritual gulf that exists between Chinese and Western (i.e., today's Magian influenced Faustian) culture.
